Piran, Slovenia: A Magical Coastal City

You are here: Home / Travel / Slovenia / Piran, Slovenia: A Magical Coastal City

Well hello, hello, what do we have here. Only an ENTIRELY NEW COUNTRY. While we were staying in Trieste, Italy, we decided to do a wee day trip across the border to the most magical little seaside city you’ve ever seen. I had no idea what to expect from Slovenia, and Piran was a wonderful introduction.

Turns out that while Piran is technically close to Trieste, and in my genius planning I thought it would be easy to just “pop across the border”, public transport links aren’t thaaaaat straightforward. But we made it work!

Piran sticks out on a peninsula into the Adriatic Sea. The city is covered with orange roofs which were reminiscent of our time in Croatia, but as you wander through the streets themselves there are different colours around every corner. I don’t really have much to report except to show you some photos, because we just spent our time wandering around the streets and relaxing by the water.

One essential thing to do in Piran is walk along the city walls up on this hill, which gives you the most stunning view out over the town and the sea beyond it.

Please enjoy the picture below which perfectly sums up my reality i.e. sweating through every pore on my body.

We walked back down into the town, stopping many times to take photos along the way, and went in search of some refreshing water (to both drink and swim in).

Then we managed to smuggle ourselves back over the border to Italy (on a public bus) for one final chance to find ourselves beautiful Italian lovers before we left the country for good (spoiler alert: we failed). Onwards and upwards my friends!
